Salt Bath Cleaning

How it works

Salt bath cleaning is a longstanding and proven process used to remove scale, polymer, residual carbon and/or degraded polymer debris from a part or filter. Carolina PEC utilizes a eutectic mixture of sodium and potassium nitrate and nitrite salts.

What we do

Once bulk depolymerization has been achieved, filters and parts are immersed in the molten salt and heated up to a pre-programmed set-point. The hot melt circulates via convection currents and will penetrate small openings and media packs removing contaminant.

The contaminant, if carbon-based, will oxidize to carbon dioxide and water or move to the top of the salt for surface oxidation.  Inorganic scale such as rust, carbon deposits, heat stains, etc. can be removed by processing the parts in salt. As the salt heats the part, the metal will expand allowing the scale to crack and be removed from the part.

"Throughout my career at Carolina Filters, our unwavering commitment to new and cutting edge technology has established us as the world's leader in metallic filter cleaning and testing."
